The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has released the following key messages for Tuesday’s winter storm.
● Temperatures will climb only into the upper 30s to near 40 today before falling quickly into the low
to mid 20s again tonight.
● Dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills will continue through the week. These will be life
threatening to people exposed for extended periods and could result in significant damage to
unprotected pipes, animals, and agricultural crops.
● Snow is expected to fall across the region beginning late tonight through Tuesday evening. Snow
accumulations of 2-7 inches are expected across the region with higher amounts possible.
● Accumulated snow will not begin to melt until Thursday afternoon. Travel will become difficult and
hazardous from late Monday night through Thursday afternoon as ice and snow will be slow to
melt.
● Most snow will melt Friday, but higher accumulations and snow in shaded areas may last until as
late as Saturday.
