Ernest Borel, age 82, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the early evening hours of Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Legacy of Franklin Nursing Home in Franklin.

Ernest was born at Weeks Island on February 9, 1941 and was the second of three children born to the union of Ernest and Emily Borel. On May 4, 1962 he married the love of his life, Margie Rineholt, a union that has lasted 61 years and stood the test of time. He worked for Cabot, retiring as Central Control Operator after 39 ½ years of dedicated service. A craftsman through and through with the heart of a servant, Ernest volunteered with UMCOR during many hurricane relief efforts and helped anyone in any way he could. When he wasn’t working or helping others he could be found fishing and shrimping with his wife. Ernest would go on to work an additional eight years for Cajun Mosquito Control as a local mosquito sprayer until his health would no longer allow due to suffering a stroke. No longer able to drive, Ernest could often be seen with his wife and daughter enjoying a relaxing drive around town or sitting on the Bayou Teche soaking up God’s tranquil beauty, and from time to time, enjoying an occasional ice cream cone. Most important of all though, Ernest was a God fearing Christian, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandpa. He will truly be missed on this side of eternity.

His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his wife, Margie Rineholt Borel; his children, Bonnie Borel Robichaux and her husband Errol, Clint Wilfred Borel and his wife Caroyn, and Sharon Ann Borel; his grandchildren, Darren Robichaux and his wife Arianne, Emily Borel Carter and her husband Bryce, and Dillon Borel; his great grandson, Christopher Beau Carter; his sister, Alice Janet Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Those he now joins in eternity include his parents, Ernest Anthony Borel and Emily Savoie Borel; his sister, Dixie Thorla; as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Visitations will be held at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin on Thursday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and again Friday from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Following the funeral service, Mr. Ernest will be laid to rest in the Centerville Presbyterian Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Jett and Rev. Nolan Borel will officiate the services. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Clint Borel, Dillon Borel, Darren Robichaux, Ira Thorla, Troy Thorla, and David “Bubby” Rineholt.
