Berwick Police Chief David Leonard reports the following arrests:
Kerwing B. Deleon, 22-years-old of Fourth St. Morgan City, was arrested on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 2:40AM, on the following charges:
- 7 Fugitive Warrants for Morgan City PD
On April 17th, at 1:49AM, an officer observed a man running on the shoulder of US Hwy 90 and stopped to check on him. He was identified as Deleon and dispatch advised that he held 7 active warrants through the Morgan City Police Department. Deleon was placed under arrest and booked at the Berwick Police Department on the fugitive warrants then he was transferred to the Morgan City Police Department for processing.
Melanie D. Rink, 48-years-old, of Third St. Berwick, was arrested on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 2:40AM, on the following charges:
- Mirrors Required
- No Insurance
- Possession Of Heroin
- Possession Of Crack Cocaine
- Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia
On April 17th, at 2:19AM, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on River Rd. for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Rink and the vehicle she was driving did not have insurance on it. Rink granted officers consent to search her vehicle and during the search, officers located crack cocaine, heroin, and items of drug paraphernalia. The drugs were linked to Rink and she was placed under arrest. Rink was booked into the Berwick Jail where she remains with no bond set at this time.
Anthony D. Gant, 40-years-old of O St. Patterson, was arrested on Monday, April 18, 2022, at 12:42AM, on the following charges:
- Criminal Trespassing
- Resisting an Officer by Failure to Identify
- Misrepresentation During Booking
- 16th JDC Warrant: FTA for Trial; Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Illegal Use of Weapons; Crimes of Violence/CDS, Possession of Heroin, Possession w/Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS Excess of 28 Grams
On April 17th, at 11:27PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Burchfield Lane. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver and passenger both fled on foot. Moments later, the police department received a call from Bayside Village of man sitting on her porch. Officers arrived and located the subject and he matched the description of the driver of the vehicle that fled from the traffic stop. The individual refused to identify himself and said he was at an acquaintance’s house. The caller said she does not know the man and said he did not have permission to be on her porch. At that point, the man was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department. During the booking process, the man still refused to identify himself. Through investigative means, officers were able to identify him as Anthony Gant, and he was found to have an active warrant through the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Berwick Jail where he remains with no bond set. The traffic stop investigation is ongoing.
