After a hard-fought battle with a rare, aggressive cancer, Vergie Marie Harrington of Patterson, Louisiana passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023, at home while in St. Joseph Hospice Care at the age of 73. Vergie was born on January 11, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was such a loving, caring person that touched many lives and was all about family and friends.
Some of her favorite things to do were to go to the camp to fish, travel to as many places as she could, crafting, both line & freestyle dancing, and playing many different card & board games.
Vergie enjoyed bringing laughter & joy to whomever she could with her happy, thoughtful spirit. She had a big heart and will be missed by many but left so many wonderful, unforgettable memories!
Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Daniel Harrington; her five children, Shanie Sons Carline and her husband Byron, Sandy Sons Richard and her husband Eric, Sharah Sons, Sean Sons and his former wife Anita Verdun, and Sasha Sons; her grandchildren, Jolie Gaudet, Gillian Gaudet, Meagan Sons Barilleaux and her husband Jason, Brittney Sons and her husband Joseph Renfro, Rachael Hosey, Justin Sons, Jude Fonseca, Jaylynn Lirette, Bryson Sons, Seth Sons, and Kash Jones; her chosen granddaughter, Elizabeth Reiley; her great grandchildren, Tristen Barilleaux, Thea Barilleaux, Jaxon Barilleaux, Isabella Rodriguez, Orion Rodriguez, and Raiden Renfro; her siblings, Susan Clark Welsh and her husband David, Paul Clark and his wife Janie, and Timothy Clark; her nieces and nephews, Francesca Welsh Kiran and her husband Matthew and their daughter Ella Kiran, Nathan Welsh, Rachael Welsh, and Lorne Welsh and his wife Amber; her brother-in-law, Arthur Harrington and his wife Patsy; their two sons David Harrington and his Wife Paula, Drew Harrington; their children Dylan Harrington, Zoie Harrington, and Braxton Harrington; as well as by numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred Clark Sr. and Mary Ann Bergeron Clark; her in-laws, Leo Harrington and Eva Menard Harrington; her former husband, Ernie Sons; and her brothers, Michael Clark and Wilfred “Joey” Clark Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson on Friday, March 3rd, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and again on Saturday, March 4th, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A celebration of Vergie’s life will be held Saturday at Ibert’s at 11:00 AM. Following she will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
