BATON ROUGE, La. — Aug. 27, 2026 — Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two Morgan City men for alleged commercial fishing violations in Terrebonne Parish.
According to LDWF, 62-year-old Brent Boudreaux and 57-year-old Thomas Ackman were cited for violating turtle excluder device regulations.
On Aug. 17, agents were patrolling Oyster Bayou when they stopped a commercial fishing vessel operated by Boudreaux. During an inspection of the vessel’s skimmer nets, agents reportedly found the ends of the flaps on a double-cover turtle excluder device tied in a crisscross pattern, which LDWF says is an unapproved modification.
Agents seized 155 pounds of shrimp, which were later sold to the highest bidder.
The following day, Aug. 18, agents were patrolling the Gulf of America when they conducted another commercial fishing vessel compliance stop. Agents made contact with Ackman and inspected the turtle excluder devices on his skimmer nets.
According to LDWF, agents found plastic cable ties being used to hold the flaps of the turtle excluder device closed, also considered an unapproved modification.
Agents seized 18 pounds of shrimp in that case and sold them to the highest bidder.
A violation of turtle excluder device regulations carries a fine of up to $350.
LDWF said Sgt. Norman Deroche and Agent Courtney Hart participated in the Aug. 17 case. Lt. Jeremy Foret, Senior Agent Trevor Benoit and Senior Agent Patrick Stansbury participated in the Aug. 18 case.
