On Friday, June 6, 2025 at approximately 2014 hours, officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle with a traffic infraction that was turning onto Lewis Street. Once officers activated their overhead lights and sirens, the vehicle refused to pull over and continued onto Old Jeanerette Road. Officers then witnessed the vehicle come to a complete stop near the Iberia and St Mary Parish line.
The black male then exited the vehicle and led officers on a brief foot pursuit. The male subject began throwing things that was pulled from his shorts.
The male subject began resisting officers, which led to the subject being sprayed with OC spray. Officers were then able to place the subject into handcuffs and rendered aid to decontaminate the male’s facial area that was affected by the OC spray.
Responding officers placed the male subject into the back of the police car and began canvassing the area in an attempt to locate the objects that the male had thrown. The officers located a Ziplock bag containing a white, powdery substance and placed it into evidence. Consent was given to officers to search the vehicle. Officers then learned the male subject was Lenord Howard, 35, of Franklin La. While searching the vehicle, officers located a large amount of US Currency.
