Tommy Glenn “Bubba” Becker, a native of New Iberia and a longtime resident of St. Mary Parish, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the age of 59.
With equal parts laughter and heartbreak, family and friends now say goodbye to Bubba — a man who lived simply, loved deeply, and never passed up an opportunity to make someone laugh (or mildly panic, depending on the prank).
Bubba was a private soul with a wild sense of humor. A born entertainer in the most unexpected ways, he took great joy in pulling pranks and catching reactions — often on camera, much to the delight (and occasional embarrassment) of his loved ones. His comedic timing was impeccable, and his laugh, absolutely contagious.
He had a way of making everyone feel accepted, seen, and at home. Bubba never judged — not even when he probably should have — and would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. His heart was generous, his loyalty fierce, and his kindness unshakable.
A true jack of all trades, there wasn’t much Bubba couldn’t do. Carpentry? He taught himself. Fishing? He could do it with one eye closed and a bent hook. Art? He appreciated its beauty and often created it himself. He could fix just about anything, usually with a handful of tools, a little duct tape, and a whole lot of determination.
Bubba had a soft spot for animals — all animals. Birds, dogs, horses, stray critters — they all seemed to know they were safe with him. Injured, lost, or just in need of a little love, animals were drawn to him, and he never turned them away. He was part Dr. Dolittle, part blue-collar MacGyver, and all heart.
And when it came to food, Bubba kept it simple but specific: shrimp quesadillas, banana pudding and his mom’s lasagna. If life handed him those three things and a good fishing pole, he’d be just fine. Truthfully, he could’ve lived off that combination — and some days, he probably did.
Bubba didn’t need spotlight or riches. His joy came from the simple things: a good laugh, a rescued animal, a well-fixed project, and the comfort of his favorite meal. He leaves behind a world a little less funny, a little less kind, and a whole lot quieter without him in it.
May he rest easy — hopefully with a plate of shrimp quesadillas in one hand, banana pudding in the other, and a loyal animal curled up at his feet.
Those left to cherish Bubba’s wonderful memory are his two children, John Becker and Christina Becker and her partner, Lucas Landry; their mother and Bubba’s best friend, Ann Morris; his mother, Margaret V. Becker; his three sisters, Tammy Spencer and her partner, Erving “Poncho” Knight Sr., Cindi Smith and her partner, James Heine, and Debbie Becker; his godchildren, Tommy Spencer, Ava Morris, and Cori Contreras; his beloved niece, Lindsey and numerous other nieces and nephews, Lacey, Chris, Codey, Brittany, Brooke, Caleb, Steven, Jesse, Jamie, Kaitlyn, Meghan, and Makayla; numerous great nieces and nephews and cherished in-laws, Tina, Chris, Jennifer, Nick, Darlene, Chris S, John, Melinda, Maggie, and Mike. He is also survived by his beloved fur-baby, Phoenix.
He was reunited in heaven with his father, Julius Becker; mother-in-law, Lucy “Belle” Grivas; brother-in-law, Thomas Spencer III; and his life long best friend, Simon Contreras.
