St. Mary Arrest Report 8-25-2022

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 44 complaints and reports the following arrests:

Nicholas Paul Harmon, 35, Franklin, LA, was arrested on August 24, 2022, at 6:06 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of CDS in the presence of persons under 17. Bail was set at $7,500.

Shawn Tyrone Jenkins, 45, Franklin, LA, was arrested on August 24, 2022, at 2:32 pm for resisting arrest or officer. Bail has not been set at this time.

Chad Michael Bertrand, 37, Patterson, LA, was arrested on August 24, 2022, at 4:11 pm for aggravated burglary and on four warrants for failure to appear on the following charges:

  • Criminal neglect of family
  • Disturbing the peace by fighting
  • Speeding
  • Operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled
  • Flight from an officer

Bertrand also held a warrant through the Morgan City Police Department on the following charges:

  • Driving under suspension
  • Window tint violation
  • No insurance
  • Expired license plate

Bail has not been set at this time.

Damari A. Coleman, 22, Hammond, LA, was arrested on August 24, 2022, at 10:40 pm for aggravated burglary and on four warrants for failure to appear on the following charges:

  • Attempted 1st-degree murder
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Criminal damage to property
  • Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instruments

Tyler Andrews, 22, Hammond, LA, was arrested on August 24, 2022, at 10:40 pm for aggravated burglary and on four warrants for failure to appear on the following charges:

  • Attempted 1st-degree murder
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Criminal damage to property
  • Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instruments

On January 24, 2022, deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired on James St. in Siracusa. The deputies arrived on the scene, blocked off the area, located casings, and preserved evidence in the initial phase of the investigation.

The incident was handed over to the Investigations Section. Detectives proceeded with the investigation and subsequently, Jaicherydan Treel Gutter, Coleman and Andrews were developed as persons of interest. Simultaneous investigations were being conducted by detectives with the Morgan City Police Department and the Berwick Police Department which led to Gutter’s arrest by the MCPD. Gutter was arrested and charged by the SMPSO on charges on July 28, 2022.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, SMPSO detectives made contact with Coleman and Andrews at the MCPD. On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, a deputy transported them to from the MCPD to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking on the SMPSO warrants.

Bail has not been set at this time on the SMPSO charges.

SMPSO detectives would like to express their appreciation to the Morgan City Police Department and the Berwick Police Department for their hard work which was crucial in this joint investigation.

Benjamin Yanez, 51, Patterson, LA, was arrested on August 25, 2022, at 1:22 am driving while intoxicated, driver must be licensed, and driving on roadway laned for traffic. Bail has not been set.

All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
