JEANERETTE, LA — The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana is extending its successful business model by bringing Raintree Market to the City of Jeanerette.

Leading the expansion is Chitimacha Tribal Chairman, Melissa Darden, who emphasized the importance of community support. “We could not leave our neighbors in a bind! Many people who do not have cars used to walk to Mac’s. It was the anchor of the community due to its location and what it provided,” said Darden. “We have a very successful model with our very own Raintree Market. It was a no-brainer; we could fill a need for our neighbors and expand an already successful business model.”

The new Raintree Market will occupy the former location of Mac’s Grocery, a longtime community staple. The project aims to restore convenience and access to fresh food and essential goods for residents in the area.

The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana and Raintree Market will officially celebrate the Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held outside the new location at 1001 East Main Street, Jeanerette, Louisiana 70544.

Community members are invited to attend the ceremony and join in welcoming Raintree Market to Jeanerett
