Morgan City police have arrested two suspects in connection with a recent burglary investigation. 18-year-old Christopher McClendon of Shannon St. and a 14-year-old male were taken into custody on July 24, 2023.
Both individuals face charges of simple burglary, while McClendon also faces charges of aggravated burglary, illegal possession of stolen firearms, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The arrests were made after investigators connected both subjects to a break-in at a local business, thanks to video surveillance footage collected from the scene.
The investigation was launched on July 22 when detectives from the Morgan City Police Department began looking into a burglary that took place on Seventh Street. Officers recognized McClendon and the juvenile from a prior police encounter in June 2023. Both suspects were found at their Shannon St. residence, where evidence linking them to the break-in was also discovered.
Upon questioning, McClendon admitted to committing not only this burglary but another at another local business in June. Warrants were obtained for both suspects in relation to these crimes, and they were transported to the police department for processing.
The younger suspect has since been released into his guardian’s custody pending further juvenile proceedings, while McClendon is being held in the Morgan City Jail as he awaits his day in court. The investigation continues with potential additional warrants for the third individual involved in the lookout role during the initial burglary.
