Melinda “Nina” Ann Himel Sawyer, 56, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Iberia Medical Center.

Nina was born August 24, 1966, in Napoleonville, the daughter of Ralph Adam Himel and Shirley Gros Himel.

Nina loved sitting at home, scrolling through Facebook, and watching her soap operas or BET. Nina loved making new friends, and she adored her family; she also loved her fur-baby, Ray-Ray.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sister, Christine “Bay-Bay” Feld; brother, Chris Himel; step-sister, Cindy Duval; step-brothers, Larry Whitley and his wifeDebbie and Thomas Whitley and wife Lorna; step-mother, Christine Himel; mother-in-law, Essie Blanco; godchild, Mickey Hatch White and significant other Shane; nieces, Rebecca Clark, Amber Blanco and significant other Joshua Benjamin, Casey Blanco, and Katie Blanco; nephews, Dylan Blanco and Clarence Blanco Jr.; great-niece, Kristina Clark; great-nephews, Gavin Clark and Shayden Gary; aunts, Paulette Wiggins, Carol Naquin and husband Glenn, Caroline Himel Salindino and husband Vincent; uncles, Russell Himel and wife June, Paul Himel and wife Wanda, and Oscar Himel Jr.; best friends, Rhonda Francois, Brenda Morse, Ruby Bergeron and her husband Eric; numerous cousins and other family members who meant the world to her.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Shirley Himel; companion, Ronald Blanco Jr.; father-in-law, Ronald Blanco Sr.; sister, Stacey Blanco Ellender; grandfather, Oscar Himel Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2023 at Twin City Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Lee at New Life Tabernacle in Morgan City. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Twin City Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and again Friday, January 20, 2022 at Twin City Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. After services, Nina will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery.
