Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue reported an ongoing investigation into an incident where a young male was injured by a gunshot outside a restaurant on the 600 block of N. Canal Boulevard around 12:30 pm today. The Thibodaux Police Department responded to a local hospital on September 20, 2023, after receiving a call about a juvenile male struck by a bullet.
Upon arrival, police discovered that the youngster had been brought to the hospital by a guardian following an unexplained leg injury at a nearby eatery. Medical staff later identified the wound as a gunshot to the hip and contacted the police. The victim’s condition is not life-threatening; however, he was transferred to another hospital out of the area for further treatment.
Authorities are currently investigating this incident and do not believe the young victim or restaurant were intentionally targeted. Detectives are considering the possibility of an accidental firearm discharge. They urge those responsible to come forward as they continue to review any available video footage to aid their investigation.
