Chief Terrance Moore announces the following arrests from a recent grocery store fire.
Christopher Wyatt, 39, Greenwell St, Baton Rouge, for Aggravated Arson.
Joe Veal, 24, Madison Ave, Baton Rouge, for Principal to Aggravated Arson.
On May 30, 2025, the Jeanerette Police Department was contacted regarding suspicious activity around 1723 Church St. Upon reviewing the live camera feed, dispatchers noticed someone setting fire to a business. Upon arrival, suspects led Jeanerette Police on a vehicle pursuit through St. Mary Parish and then returning to Iberia Parish. With the help of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department, a roadblock and spike strips were deployed to assist in immobilizing the vehicle on Hwy 182 near Darnell Rd. Suspects then fled on foot and was apprehended and transported back to the Jeanerette Police Department for booking. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is in charge of the complete investigation.
Moore thanked his officers, Jeanerette Fire Department, Iberia Parish Sheriff Department, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Department, Baldwin Police Department, St. Mary Parish Fire District #11, Iberia Parish Fire District #1, and the Louisiana State Fire Marshals Office. Moore says he is advising all criminals that if they go to Jeanerette and commit a crime, “You will return and serve your time.”
