On December 18, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Iberia Parish Jail Corrections Officers discovered an inmate Albert James III in medical distress from an apparent suicide attempt and immediately began resuscitation measures.
Acadiana Ambulance personnel and Iberia Parish Fire District medics responded and continued resuscitation measures. James was transported to area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Albert James III, 51 years old, was arrested on the following charges:
LA RS 14:30.1 Second Degree Murder
LA RS 15:542B1 Failure to Register as Sex Offender
LA RS 14:67.26 Theft of a Motor Vehicle
LA RS 14:37 Domestic Abuse Battery – warrant
CCRP 349.1 Failure to Appear Warrant (x3)
James was charged in the stabbing death of a female on December 17, 2023. Iberia Parish deputies with the responded to a residence in the 200 block of Boutte Road in Loreauville. Upon arrival, detectives discovered a fatally stabbed female located inside the residence who was later identified as 43 year old Latanya Hollins of Metairie.
With assistance from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Real-time Crime Unit and AFIS Unit, Lafayette Police Department, Albert James III was located in Lafayette Parish. He was arrested and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigation are conducting an investigation.
