ASSUMPTION PARISH, La. — A tragic industrial accident at a plant in the Belle Rose area Sunday afternoon claimed the life of one worker and left two others injured.

According to Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness Director Paul LeBlanc, the incident happened around 3:40 p.m. at the GIE plant on Grand Bayou Road.

Officials say workers were conducting a routine pressure test on a brine well when a fitting failed. The failure caused a high-pressure hose to break loose, striking multiple workers.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members. Two additional workers were injured and transported by AirMed to a regional hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.

First responders from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with personnel from Louisiana State Police including HazMat units, responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed there were no off-site impacts to the public and no evacuations were required.

Officials say the investigation into the cause of the equipment failure remains ongoing.
