IBERIA PARISH, La. — Beginning Thursday, October 9, anyone attending a game or school event in Iberia Parish will need to follow new safety rules at the gate.

The Iberia Parish School Board has approved a clear bag policy that applies to all athletic and extracurricular events across the district.

Superintendent Heath Hulin said the measure was not prompted by a particular incident but is intended to align with policies already in place in nearby parishes and to enhance safety and efficiency at school functions.

> “After speaking with principals, it’s not just weapons that we’re concerned with,” Hulin explained. “It’s anything prohibited from being brought into the stadium—outside food, drinks, or other items. This will help with that and help speed up our lines.”

Under the new policy, attendees will be allowed to bring:

One clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12” x 12” x 6”

One clear, resealable one-gallon plastic storage bag (such as a Ziploc)

One small clutch, purse, or wallet no larger than 5.5” x 7.5”, with or without a strap

Prohibited items include backpacks, duffel bags, large totes, or any bag that is not clear. Printed, tinted, and mesh bags are also not allowed.

District officials say the policy is designed to make event entry safer and faster for students, families, and fans.
