Napoleonville, LA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon announced the arrest of 36-year-old Markus M. D. Stadium of Houma on felony charges stemming from a disturbing case of abuse involving an infirmed individual.

Authorities say that on October 6, 2025, a local healthcare facility contacted the Sheriff’s Office after staff suspected one of their patients may have been the victim of abuse. Detectives launched an investigation and learned that a healthcare attendant had told the victim’s family the injuries were caused by wasp stings. The family, however, became concerned after noticing the frequency and severity of the wounds.

Medical professionals later determined that the injuries were consistent with burns, not insect bites. During the investigation, detectives uncovered electronic evidence showing Stadium using a barbecue-style lighter to burn the victim on multiple occasions.

Following their findings, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Stadium, who later turned himself in at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

He has been booked with one count of Cruelty to the Infirmed and remains jailed on a $1,000,000 bond.
