Homicide Investigation Results in One Arrest in Iberia Parish

On May 28, 2025, at approximately 6:00 pm, deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Patrol Division, responded to a medical complaint in the 4600 block of Old LA 25. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 45-year-old unresponsive male in the residence. Subsequent lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigations arrived on scene and initiated an investigation. Autopsy results revealed the victim died from a stab wound.
As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Brittany Mitchell, 34 years old of New Iberia, for the following charge:
LA RS 14:30.1 SECOND DEGREE MURDER
Brittany is currently being held in the St. Mary Parish Jail. Bond has not been set at this time.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
