Three local fire departments responded to a fire at a Bayou Vista church on Saturday afternoon, although the fire seemed to be under control shortly after firefighters arrived.

At 4:56 pm, the Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at Living in the Light Ministries at the intersection of Highway 182 and Clarke Road. The first unit that arrived on scene reported heavy fire and smoke showing and requested a second alarm. When KQKI News arrived on scene at approximately 5:05 pm, heavy smoke was still showing, but it appeared the fire was quickly brought under control

Berwick and Patterson Volunteer Fire Departments also responded with mutual aid while the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and we will update the story once more information becomes available.
