Berwick Police Chief David Leonard reports the arrest of a Patterson man who as charged with DWI and other charges in connection with a Thursday morning head- on collision.
On Thursday, July 11,2024 at approximately 8:41 AM, the Berwick Police Department received a call of a two-vehicle crash on LA Highway 182. Upon arrival, the officers met with the parties involved where it was learned that the two vehicles collided head-on. A driver and passenger of one of the vehicles were transported to an area hospital for possible injuries.
The other driver was identified as 71-year-old Marvin Breaux of Patterson. While speaking with Breaux, impairment was detected by officers. Witnesses also stated that moments before the crash, Breaux’s vehicle was allegedly traveling in a reckless and erratic manner, and at one point was traveling in the opposite lane. A series of standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, with Breaux reportedly performing poorly.
Breaux admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages leading up to the crash, as well as taking prescription narcotic medications that affected his state of mind. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department where he submitted a valid breath sample of 0.03G % BAC. A urine sample was also collected from Breaux for toxicology purposes. He was then booked on the charges of Driving While Intoxicated 1st Offense, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Open Alcoholic Container in a Vehicle. Following the booking process, Breaux posted a $3,250.00 bond.
