Charles A. Picard passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his home in Charenton surrounded in love. Born on January 17, 1940, in Franklin, Charles was the tenth of 13 siblings. He was known for his warm, welcoming personality, having never met a stranger in his life. His laughter and love for conversation made him the cherished company of many. A man with a generous heart, Charles was also known to open his home to those in need. Alongside his previous wife who passed away in 2002, they fostered numerous children, as well as taking in many family members in need of a place to live.
Charles was a skilled electrician who took immense pride in his work. His industrious spirit extended beyond his professional life into his hobbies; he loved tinkering and fixing things, demonstrating a passion for mechanic work. If it had a motor he could fix it. Though he wasn’t known for his culinary skills, Charles did occasionally dabble in the kitchen and was known for his delicious chicken and dumplings. His light certainly shone brightly, touching the lives of all who knew him.
Charles leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of nine years, Catherine Written Saucier Picard, who he married on March 15, 2015. He was a dedicated husband who enriched Catherine’s life with his love, support, and companionship. He also leaves behind his children, Linda Picard Escagne and her husband Robert, Marie Picard Bowen, Gordon Picard, Jackie Picard Morvant, Cindy Saucier, and Nicole Saucier Gassiott; his sister, Gloria Picard Derouen; his brother, Alvin Picard; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Charles was preceded in death his previous wife, Irene Desormeaux Picard; his father, Charles Picard; his mother, Marie Dupre Picard Olivier; six brothers, Willie, Walter, Adam, Shirley Charles, Milton and Andrew Picard; four sisters, Mary Mae Mondor, Alicia “Tut” Milling, Nellie Derouen, and Irene Tabb; and a grandson, Gordon Frank Picard.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Little Pass Baptist Church, located at 2857 Chitimacha Trail, Charenton, LA, 70523. The funeral service will follow at Little Pass at 1:30 PM. A graveside service will take place on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, located at 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70816. Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway will conduct the services. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include David Morvant Jr.., Charles Morvant, José Alexander, Kage Blanchard, Logan Gassiott, and Trey Olwell.
