MORGAN CITY, La. — A Morgan City woman has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged financial exploitation of an elderly resident at a local healthcare facility.

According to the Morgan City Police Department, detectives began investigating the case on June 1 after receiving a complaint about unauthorized charges made on the bank account of an elderly victim. During the investigation, authorities learned the victim was a resident of a local healthcare facility and was allegedly being exploited by a caregiver employed there.

Investigators determined that 22-year-old Yakira Miller of Morgan City allegedly obtained the victim’s private financial information and used it to make unauthorized transactions for her own personal benefit.
On June 5, detectives arrested Miller and booked her on one count of Exploitation of the Infirm and four counts of Theft Under $1,000.

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may be possible as detectives continue gathering evidence and identifying any additional victims or individuals who may have been involved.

The Morgan City Police Department emphasized its commitment to protecting elderly and vulnerable citizens from financial exploitation and encourages anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at (985) 380-4605. :::
