Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents are investigating a boating incident that took place on Friday, Sept. 26 near Berwick.

Agents said they learned of a boating incident on the Intracoastal Waterway involving a 20-foot fiberglass vessel and two occupants. Agents found out that the occupants were traveling east at a high rate of speed when they struck a large floating log. The operator was ejected from the vessel and the passenger stayed in the vessel.

Good Samaritans assisted the operator back into his vessel and then assisted the two boaters to the Berwick boat launch. The two occupants of the vessel were airlifted  from the scene by Acadian Air Med to out of town hospitals to be treated for their injuries and were released. Both occupants were wearing personal flotation devices at the time of the incident.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Berwick Volunteer Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene at the boat launch.
