Berwick High School Baseball Team Honored by School Board, BHS Baseball Field Named After Longtime Berwick Coach

The Class 3A State Runner-Up Berwick High School Baseball team was honored by the St. Mary Parish School Board during their monthly meeting Thursday evening. The Panthers reached the state finals in Sulphur last month where they were defeated 5 – 4 by Lutcher in seven innings.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the school board named the Berwick High School baseball field to “Lud Henry Field” in honor of Assistant Coach Lud Henry.  Henry served as a longtime baseball coach at Berwick High School and also held positions at other schools in St. Mary Parish. He continues to coach alongside his son, Berwick High School Head Baseball Coach Seth Henry. Henry also serves as the Mayor Pro-Tem of the Town of Berwick.

Henry’s long list of positions and accolades include:

1975- member of first BHS baseball team 4-year starter

District MVP and All State for 1978 State Champions

1st person in school history be named 1st team All District in Football, Basketball & Baseball

1979-82 4-year starter at Mcneese and Honorable Mention All-conference 1981 & 1982

1983-84 Assistant Coach -Semi-finalists

1985-91 Head Baseball record 140-47

District Champions 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 & 1991

Quarterfinals 1986, 1987 & 1991

State Runners-Up 1990

Served as assistant in 1994, 1997, 1998 & 2012-present

State Champions 2018

State Runners-Up 2022

State Semi-Finalists 2019

District Coach of the year 1986, 1988, 1989 & 1990
