Berwick High School has announced the naming of their new head baseball coach, Cody Ortego who will also teach math.  Ortego, a native of Lafayette, comes to Berwick from St. Amant High School, where he was a teacher and assistant baseball coach.

Ortego has been a coach since 2009, teaching since 2013 and most recently at St. Amant for the past four years.
During his time at St. Amant, the Gators were state runner-up in 2022, 2023 District Champions, held a 97-33 record, including a shortened covid season, and a team ERA below 3 over the last three years.

Ortego said his proud accomplishments include coaching in the LHSAA state tournament all but 2 years in his career and as a coach with LSU-E, he went to Regionals. He has coached to 20+ wins in all but one season. Ortego added that he has had the pleasure of working with other great coaches like former Berwick baseball coach Brandon Bravata and former Lafayette High School head baseball coach Sam Taulli.
