Bayou L’Ourse Man Charged with Simple Burglary and Second Degree Battery

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jerret Charles Cortez, 36, of 249 Vivian Street, Bayou L’Ourse, LA, on felony battery and burglary charges arising from an incident at a residence in the 100 block of Elaine Street in Bayou L’Ourse on Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the location in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with an individual now identified as Jerret Charles Cortez and learned of an incident involving Cortez and another individual. Cortez advised deputies that he and a friend were preparing to go cut tree limbs when his friend fell and hit his head.

Deputies went to the residence on Elaine Street and located the other party to this incident and found him to be suffering from severe injuries.

The individual / victim advised deputies that Cortez went to the residence in question and without provocation, began beating him, the victim further indicated that Cortez may have stolen a firearm from his vehicle earlier.

Deputies located Jerret Charles Cortez as he was exiting the victim’s pick-up truck with property from within.

Jerret Charles Cortez was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Simple Burglary
*Second Degree Battery

Jerret Charles Cortez remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
