A Franklin man has been arrested following an investigation into a residential contractor fraud complaint involving work that was reportedly never completed.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Reginald Thomas was arrested on September 17 on a charge of residential contractor fraud.
According to investigators, the victim hired Thomas to perform work at a property in Patterson and paid him $7,000. Authorities said the checks were cashed in April 2026.
An additional $250 was reportedly paid to obtain a permit for the project. However, investigators said no work was performed at the property.
The victim reportedly requested a refund several times but did not receive the money. By August 19, authorities said 90 business days had passed without any work being completed or a refund being issued.
A warrant was obtained for Thomas’ arrest. A deputy contacted Thomas on September 17 and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
Bail was set at $10,000. Thomas was later transferred to another agency.
