A Friday night high school football game between the Centerville Bulldogs and Oberlin Tigers was canceled following an altercation involving members of the Oberlin coaching staff.
According to KPLC, the incident reportedly occurred around halftime as Oberlin was holding its Homecoming court presentation.
According to Oberlin Police Chief Grady Haynes, Tigers head coach Robert Etheridge and assistant coach Jaden Brasseaux became involved in an argument on the sidelines prior to halftime.
Haynes said the two coaches later returned to the locker room, where the confrontation allegedly became physical and the two exchanged blows. Haynes also said Etheridge flipped over a desk during the incident.
Following the altercation, officials canceled the remainder of the game. Centerville was leading Oberlin 36-6 at the time.
Allen Parish Superintendent Brad Soileau issued a statement to KPLC 7News apologizing to the Oberlin community and Centerville football team.
“As Superintendent, I take full responsibility. I’d like to apologize to the people of Oberlin that this happened, and to the visiting team that this took place. There’s no excuse for it. It’s unacceptable. There will be a full investigation, and we will hold those accountable that need to be held accountable,” Soileau said.
School officials say a full investigation into the incident will be conducted.
