NEW IBERIA, La. — A Saturday night shooting in New Iberia has left one man dead, according to authorities.
Police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Daigre Street near the intersection of Tut Street. When officers arrived, they encountered an active scene and reported that shots were still being fired.
Two individuals were detained at the scene as investigators worked to secure the area and gather evidence.
Authorities said the incident appears to have stemmed from an altercation involving a group of individuals that escalated into gunfire.
A 39-year-old man was found deceased at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
