MORGAN CITY, La. — A Morgan City man is behind bars following an alleged armed home invasion that occurred Tuesday night on Headland Street.

According to the Morgan City Police Department, officers responded to a residence on May 26 after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim, who said a man knocked on her door before forcing his way inside the home.

Investigators say the suspect began demanding firearms once inside the residence. During the incident, the suspect allegedly located firearms in the home, armed himself, and threatened the victim by brandishing a weapon.

As the investigation unfolded, officers quickly developed information about the suspect’s identity and possible whereabouts. Detectives later executed a search warrant at a residence on Poncio Street, where evidence connected to the crime was recovered.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Arrie Sam of Morgan City. He was arrested and booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail on charges of aggravated burglary of an inhabited dwelling, false imprisonment while armed with a dangerous weapon, and contempt of court through 6th Ward City Court.

Morgan City Police Chief Chad M. Adams praised the efforts of responding officers, investigators, and members of the public who assisted in helping bring the case to a swift resolution.

The investigation remains ongoing.
