Belle Rose Man Cited for Rabbit Hunting Violation

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Belle Rose man for an alleged rabbit hunting violation on Nov. 19 in Assumption Parish.

Agents cited Cody Leonard, for taking rabbits using illegal methods.

Agents were on patrol when they located illegal rabbit traps or boxes near Bayou Corne. Agents setup surveillance on the area on Nov. 19 and observed Leonard tending the rabbit boxes.

Agents made contact with Leonard and found him in possession of one rabbit, a .22 caliber pistol and five rabbit boxes.

Taking rabbits using illegal methods brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Leonard may also face civil restitution for the illegally taken rabbit totaling $32.

Agents participating in case are Agent Harry Gaines, Senior Agent Joel Rubio, Sgt. Jake Darden and Lt. Scott Dupre.
