A 48-year-old man from Morgan City, identified as John A. Anderson of Filmore Street, has been arrested on rape and narcotics charges. He was taken into custody on Thursday, January 11, at 3:32 pm.
Anderson faces several allegations including first-degree assault, unlawful restraint, domestic violence battery, and endangerment of a child under aggravated domestic violence statutes. Additionally, he is accused of cultivating and possessing psilocybin mushrooms, possessing marijuana, owning a firearm while in possession of controlled substances (CDS), and having drug paraphernalia. The charges also involve the illegal use of controlled substances in the presence of a minor.
The arrest occurred following a response by Morgan City Police to a reported domestic incident involving a weapon at the address on Filmore Street.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Anderson, who appeared to be under the influence. Reports suggest that an altercation took place where the victim was allegedly struck multiple times by Anderson, who also prevented them from leaving the residence. A child was present during the incident.
During the subsequent investigation, authorities discovered Anderson in possession of illegal narcotics. The Morgan City Police Department’s Narcotics Division executed a search warrant, uncovering evidence including suspected psilocybin mushroom cultivation kits, suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and multiple firearms.
The Morgan City Police Department’s Detective Division is continuing the investigation into the incident.
