According to Houma Police Chief Travis Theriot, the 16-year-old shot and killed in the tragic homicide on April 24, 2023, has been identified as Sidney Nelson, Jr.
Chief Theriot and the Houma Police Department sends their condolences to the family and friends of Nelson. Nelson was a native of Raceland and student at Central Lafourche High School.
Houma Police detectives have been working tirelessly as they attempt to bring closure for his family and the community. Investigators are asking if anyone has any information pertaining to this investigation, to contact the Houma Police Department.

On April 24th, 2023, at approximately 3:00p.m. the Houma Police Department responded to shooting in the 2600 block of Payne Street.
As the officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old male who was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the shooting.
At the present time the investigation is in the infant stages and, the suspect nor the motive have been developed as of this time.
