Napoleonville Man Arrested on Several Charges After Vehicle Pursuit

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Amari McGill, 20, of 300 Washington Street, Napoleonville, LA, on felony charges arising from a series of violent incidents originating near Assumption High School on February 15, 2023.
On the aforementioned date, a school resource deputy was summoned to investigate a vehicle parked on school property of Assumption High School. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect, now identified as Amari McGill, got into the vehicle. As the deputy attempted to secure the vehicle for safety purposes, the suspect drove off striking the resource officer.
The school resource officer summoned assistance from other deputies and provided information on the suspect vehicle which fled the area via LA 308 southbound. Deputies were advised that the suspect, Amari McGill, had taken the vehicle from a relative without authorization. Narcotics and rank officers intercepted the suspect vehicle near LA 1 and LA 1010.
The suspect engaged officers into a pursuit situation which took the chase down LA 1010, thru LA 400, to LA 398. While on LA 1010, the suspect, Amari McGill intentionally rammed a patrol unit and continued on. The suspect traveled west eventually reaching U.S. 90 and continuing west.
The suspect vehicle intentionally rammed a second Sheriff’s unit and continued on to near the Jeanerette exit in St. Mary Parish where he crashed, ending the pursuit.
The suspect, Amari McGill was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Deputies secured arrest warrants for multiple felony counts against McGill.
Amari McGill was taken into custody at a residence in Napoleonville on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer (2 Counts)
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer (2 Counts)
*Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
*Unauthorized Use of a Moveable
*Fugitive – St. Mary Parish (Relative to this incident)
Amari McGill remains incarcerated with bond set at $360,000.
