Frances “Billie” Gobert Bourgeois, a resident of Verdunville since 1945, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, February 14, 2022, at her home surrounded in love by her devoted family.
Billie, as she was affectionately known by all, was born on August 3, 1928 in New Orleans where she was also raised. She was the eldest of six children born to Nicholas and Antonia Gobert. At the age of 17 her family moved to Verdunville, where her mother was from. She married the love of her life, Howard Bourgeois, and the two were blessed with nine children. She was employed with Head Start for 28 years, retiring in 1998. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those she leaves to cherish her beautiful memory include seven children, Kerry A. Bourgeois Sr., Claire M. Bourgeois, Sherman J. Bourgeois Sr., Phillip A. Bourgeois Sr., Carmen K. Bourgeois, Carla B. Weidenboerner, and Dawn B. Paul; 21 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Marguerite G. Bourgeois, Jeanette G. Pellerin, and Ann Carol G. Wigley; as well as by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Bourgeois; her two eldest children, Theresa Jean Bourgeois Smith and Michael D. Bourgeois Sr.; her parents, Nicholas Gobert and Antonia Vallet Gobert; and two brothers, Mack Gobert and Nicholas “Danny” Gobert.
The family request visiting hours be observed Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m., led by Mr. Terry Burgess. Visiting hours will resume Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Verdunville, with tributes at 9:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Verdunville during at 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Father Peter Emusa will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services.
