Charenton Man Arrested on Multiple Drug and Weapons Charges

CHARENTON, La. — A Charenton man was arrested Monday evening after deputies reportedly discovered multiple types of illegal drugs and a firearm during a traffic stop, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Ulysses Lumpkin, 59, of Charenton, on November 10, 2025, at approximately 6:03 p.m. following a traffic stop in which he was allegedly observed committing an improper lane use violation.

During the investigation, authorities say Lumpkin attempted to obstruct justice, leading to a search that uncovered several controlled substances, including crack cocaine, marijuana, alprazolam (Xanax), amphetamine pills, and MDMA (ecstasy). Deputies also reportedly found drug paraphernalia and a firearm in the vehicle.

Lumpkin, who is reportedly a convicted felon, now faces multiple felony charges, including:

Improper lane use

Obstruction of justice

Possession of Schedule II drugs (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute

Possession of Schedule I drugs (marijuana, MDMA) with intent to distribute

Possession of Schedule IV drugs (alprazolam) with intent to distribute

Possession of Schedule II drugs (amphetamine pills) with intent to distribute

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon

Illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of controlled dangerous substances

Lumpkin was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. His bail was set at $96,500.

The investigation remains ongoing.
