Worker Dies after Falling from Barge at Assumption Parish Shipyard

A man died on Saturday after falling from a barge that he was working on at a shipyard located in Assumption Parish. At approximately 11:30 am Saturday morning, a worker was working on a barge at a shipyard in Bayou Boeuf when he fell onto a lower portion of the barge and suffered massive head injuries before falling into the water.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division and U.S. Coast Guard responded and began searching for the worker. The body of the  male victim, who is from Honduras and has not been identified, was recovered at approximately 1:30 pm.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
