Iberia Parish – At approximately 6:45 p.m. on November 25, 2021, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 90 near Ross Road in Iberia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Wilford Henry of Lafayette.
The preliminary investigation revealed Henry was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup east on US 90 at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the Silverado rear-ended a 2019 Kenworth 18-wheeler, also traveling east on US 90, in the same lane of travel.
Henry was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. His passenger was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was restrained and was not injured. He submitted a breath sample which indicated no alcohol present and showed no signs of impairment.
Impairment on the part of Henry is unknown but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis and results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
Troop I has investigated 54 fatal crashes resulting in 65 deaths since the beginning of 2021.
