Two Charged After Stealing Copper Welding Leads From Business

On February 6, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a business in the 5000 block of Port Road regarding 2 subjects observed on camera in the yard surrounding the business. It was discovered that the 2 subjects, cut the fence, broke into the business, and loaded up a wheelbarrow full of copper welding leads. At this time, no suspects were located. Deputies located a truck parked behind the building that did not belong to the business. The truck was registered to a Joshua Deruise of Lafayette, the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Lafayette Police Department.

Early on the morning of February 7, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies were again called out to the same business due to suspects being detected on cameras again. Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter. IPSO deputies, along with K-9 Rex located the 2 men, Joshua Deruise (male, 29 years old) and Kendall Laday (male, 48 years old) both from Lafayette, hiding in the mud under a catwalk located on the property.

The following individuals were arrested and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the following charges:

Both were charged with Simple Burglary.

Bond has been set at $30,000.00 each
