ST. MARY PARISH, La. — Law enforcement agencies are investigating a threatening TikTok reel that has been circulating across St. Mary Parish and reportedly contains threats of violence against schools and individuals.
According to the St. Mary Parish school district, the video features a “Cat in the Hat” theme and uses Dr. Seuss-style wording while making threatening statements.
Law enforcement agencies responded immediately after receiving reports of the video and are currently investigating.
School officials are reminding students and families that creating, sharing or circulating messages involving threats of violence can result in serious consequences under both the law and school board policy.
District officials said anyone found responsible for creating or sharing the threatening content could face disciplinary action as well as possible consequences through law enforcement.
The district stressed that all threats involving schools are taken seriously and will not be treated as jokes or hoaxes.
Anyone with information regarding the TikTok reel is urged to contact a school administrator or law enforcement. Information may also be submitted through the district’s anonymous reporting application available on school websites.
The St. Mary Parish school district thanked students, parents and community members who reported the threatening content to authorities.
