Stephensville Man Arrested On Second Degree Murder Charges After Victim Dies from Altercation

St. Martinville, LA) –On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a business at the 3100 block of Highway 70, Stephensville, LA., in reference to a physical altercation between two individuals. Upon arrival, deputies learned that one of the individuals sustained injuries as a result of the altercation and was transported to the hospital.

At the culmination of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Chad Gros, 49, Stephensville, LA., on the following charge:

LA. R.S. 14:34.1 Second Degree Battery

On the morning of May 8, 2024, he turned himself in to authorities with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charge.

On the afternoon of May 8, 2024, the victim passed away due to the injuries sustained in the altercation, and the charges were upgraded to LA. R.S. 14:30.1 Second Degree Murder.  Chad Gros was subsequently rebooked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the upgraded charge.
