The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a statement through their Facebook page on Sunday saying the department is, “Officially on standby in preparation for the arrival of the cold temperatures and possible wintry precipitation”. The following statement was issued:

Sheriff Blaise Smith and the deputies of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office are officially on “standby” in preparation for the arrival of the cold temperatures and possible wintry precipitation.

Preparing for a weather event might be especially difficult for those who are elderly, physically challenged, etc. Louisianan’s are known as “close-knit” people who are quick to care for others in need.

Therefore, as you prepare today on this Valentine’s Day, show some love to your neighbors by checking on them to see if they need help getting ready for the cold weather.

Some ideas they need help with:

  • winterizing their pipes and outdoor faucets
  • getting groceries, gas, or other needed supplies
  • help taking care of their pets
  • making their house warm and safe.

Check-in on your neighbors through Wednesday morning as the night-time temperatures will be very cold

tonight through Tuesday night.
