When Immanuel Christian School called needing someone to come to talk to their little students, Sheriff Blaise Smith knew exactly who to send, the department’s School Resource Officers.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says that Lt. Oscar West, Sgt. Walter Shepherd and DARE officer Datonya Pelle are the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office “kid whisperers.”, adding their ability to communicate and build rapport with students from pre-K through High School is quite amazing.

ICS students have been learning about community helpers and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says it was glad to send their School Resource Officers to help teach them about law enforcement.
