Officials with South Louisiana Community College and Port of West St. Mary recently gathered to rename the SLCC Baldwin facility in honor of the late David Allain, who served as the director of the port. Allain’s family, friends, and former colleagues with the Port of West St. Mary joined SLCC Chancellor Dr. Vincent June and members of the SLCC team in Baldwin.

The facility, which opened in March, was renamed in honor of Allain because he was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

A native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Allain passed away on July 26, just four months after the facility opened.  He was a graduate of Jeanerette Senior High and went on to become a farmer working alongside his father.  After retiring from sugarcane farming, he was appointed the Director of the Port of West St. Mary where he worked until his passing.
