The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Saturday evening shooting in the Ashton community that left a 17-year-old injured.
Authorities say dispatchers received multiple reports of gunfire around 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Gibbs Road area. Responding deputies found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities say his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office have taken over the investigation and are searching for a dark-colored SUV and its driver, which may have been involved in the shooting.
Investigators are also asking residents in the Gibbs Road and Ashton area to check home or business surveillance cameras for any footage from Saturday afternoon that could assist in the case.
The investigation remains active.
