One Arrested in Bank Fraud Investigation in New Iberia

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Officers with the New Iberia Police Department were called to a local financial institute in the 2700 block of Louisiana Highway 14 to investigate an incident involving fraudulent checks.

Upon arriving, the responding officer was informed that an individual had deposited fraudulent checks on two separate occasions totaling approximately $50,000.00.

The responding officer gathered all the necessary information and began investigating.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Officers were conducting a follow-up investigation related to the incident.

Officers were able to identify the suspect as 19-year-old Darriyonus Collette of New Iberia. Arrest warrants were obtained for the charges of Bank Fraud and Monetary Instrument Abuse.

Collette was located and arrested without incident.

After gathering more information, Officers obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 1000 block of French Street. During the search, officers located and seized items used to produce fraudulent checks.

Collette was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.

This investigation is ongoing.
