New Iberia Police Investigate an Early Morning Shooting – One Suspect Apprehended

At around 6:30 a.m., on Sunday, April 23, 2023, the New Iberia Police Department began investigating a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Walton Street.

The victim was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital where he was stabilized and transported to a Lafayette hospital where he remains in critical, but stable, condition.

Detectives responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and reviewing video surveillance footage. During this time, a suspect was developed.

With the assistance of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was located.

As a result of the investigation, Taekwon Williams, 26 years old, was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the following charges:

Attempted Second Degree Murder

Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

Criminal Damage to Property

Possession of Schedule I CDS
