MORGAN CITY, La. — A Morgan City man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the discovery of a deceased individual inside a residence Sunday.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, officers with the Morgan City Police Department responded to the area of Pine Street and Maple Street for a welfare check.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased 65-year-old individual inside the residence. Investigators observed signs of foul play and immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
During the investigation, detectives identified 49-year-old Whitney Joseph Billiot IV of Morgan City as a suspect. Police said detectives obtained evidence linking Billiot to the victim’s death and established probable cause for his arrest.
Billiot was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives continue to gather information. Police said additional details will be released when appropriate.
