Napoleonville, LA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon announced the arrest of Anthony James Ewell, 60, following a violent incident on Tuesday. Ewell allegedly stabbed his neighbor in the neck during a dispute over a lawn chair.
According to authorities, deputies responded to a residence in the 300 block of LA 400 after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found a victim who had been attacked in the neck. The victim told deputies that he and Ewell had argued earlier in the day over a lawn chair. During the argument, Ewell reportedly threatened to kill the victim.
Despite going their separate ways, the conflict escalated later in the day. As the victim was returning from a local business, Ewell allegedly ran up behind him and stabbed him in the neck.
Deputies observed physical injuries on the victim that corroborated the statements from those involved. Following an investigation, Ewell was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on a charge of Aggravated Second Degree Battery.
Ewell was also found to have multiple outstanding warrants in Assumption Parish for failure to appear on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Following too Closely, Driver Must be Licensed, and Resisting an Officer. His bond on the failure to appear charges is set at $1,379.00.
The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital. Ewell remains in jail pending a bond hearing on the felony battery charge.
