UPDATE:  KQKI has learned that Dauntain Jr. was in Franklin for the funeral of a family member and has relatives and connections in Franklin, Jeanerette and Abbeville.

UPDATE
:  The Office of Juvenile Justice says that the juvenile, 17-year-old, Kimmy Dauntain Jr., is from Orleans Parish.  Following the incident, OJJ said it immediately made official notifications to law enforcement. As of 9:00 am, on  Saturday, February 3, 2024, the escapee remains at large. Dauntain was being held on multiple charges including  attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder (accessory after the fact).

KQKI sent an email Saturday morning to the OJJ Public Information Officer, Nicolette Gordon, asking if Dauntain had any relatives or other connections in Franklin, if he was in handcuffs and if she knew how he escaped.  However, the statement from OJJ did not release Dauntain’s identity stating that due to the confidential nature of juvenile records, OJJ cannot release information pertaining to youth to the media.  But in a statement released to the media Friday night, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office identified Dauntain as the juvenile who was in the custody of OJJ when he escaped on an escorted trip to Franklin.

According to the OJJ, Dauntain was entered into the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) database.
